BRAND-INDEPENDENT ADVICE

We choose the right model for the build—not whichever badge has the loudest marketing. Performance, reliability, warranty, acoustics and value all count.

Component intelligence

Current hardware. Clear advice.

Research reviewedAugust 2026

We keep up with the parts, platforms and software features that genuinely affect a build. Then we translate them into the right PC for your games, screen, budget and future plans — without pretending that the newest or most expensive option is always the best one.

01

CPU / AM5

Gaming-first Ryzen X3D

Ryzen 7 9850X3D

8 cores / 16 threads · up to 5.6 GHz · 104 MB cache

A focused high-refresh gaming choice. For gaming plus heavy creation, the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 steps up to 208 MB of cache and puts 3D V-Cache on both chiplets.

AM5 support is confirmed through 2029.

02

CPU / LGA1851

Intel's current desktop platform

Core Ultra 7 270K Plus

24 cores · up to 5.5 GHz · DDR5-7200 support

A current 200S Plus option for mixed gaming, streaming and productivity builds. We match the board, power limits and cooling to the actual workload rather than the badge on the box.

LGA1851 requires an Intel 800-series board.

03

GPU / CURRENT GENERATION

Three strong routes

RTX 50 · RX 9000 · Arc B-Series

DLSS 4.5 · FSR Redstone · XeSS 2

NVIDIA leads with mature ray-tracing and DLSS features; AMD's RX 9070 XT and 9070 GRE are serious Radeon options; Intel's 12 GB Arc B580 remains a useful value and AV1-encoding choice.

We compare the games you play, not logo loyalty.

04

PLATFORM / BUILD QUALITY

The parts around the parts

Power. Thermals. Firmware.

Correct cabling · airflow · BIOS · memory profile

A fast component can still underperform in a badly planned system. We check case clearance, PSU standard and headroom, cooler capacity, fan layout, firmware and memory stability before handover.

Every recommendation is confirmed again at quote stage.

How we specify a build

The target comes first. The parts follow.

Resolution, refresh rate, game library and non-gaming workloads change what “balanced” means. This is how we start the conversation.

01

Competitive / high refresh

CPU latency, stable lows and a balanced GPU

Spend where it improves responsiveness at the monitor's real resolution and refresh rate. A flagship 4K GPU is not automatically the right answer.

02

1440p all-round gaming

GPU performance, VRAM and sensible platform cost

Usually the best balance of image quality and frame rate. We compare native performance, upscaling quality, ray tracing and the exact games you care about.

03

4K / path-traced games

GPU class, feature set, power and cooling

This is where premium GPUs and reconstruction technology matter most. The case, PSU connector and sustained thermal performance are part of the specification.

04

Gaming + streaming / creation

More CPU headroom, VRAM and media engines

Extra cores and strong AV1 encoding can matter more than a few benchmark frames. We plan storage and memory around the applications as well as the games.

No-buzzword policy

What the spec sheet does not tell you.

Frame generation is not native rendering

It can make motion look smoother, but image quality, input frame rate and latency still matter. We treat it as a useful feature, not a replacement for enough base performance.

More VRAM does not settle every GPU comparison

Capacity matters at high settings, but architecture, memory bandwidth, drivers and the game engine also decide performance. We look at the whole card.

A Gen 5 SSD does not automatically add FPS

Fast NVMe storage helps transfer and loading workloads, especially in DirectStorage-ready games. It does not turn a CPU- or GPU-limited game into a faster one.

There is no universal bottleneck percentage

The limiting part changes with resolution, settings, game engine and even the scene. We size the system for the workloads you will actually run.

Product ranges, firmware and pricing move quickly. We re-check compatibility, current availability and manufacturer guidance before every final quote.
